Bob became the Dean of Students as of January 1, 2026. He previously has served at College of the Redwoods as Director of Athletics / Physical Education / Recreation / Kinesiology & Health (2017-2025), Associate Dean of Athletics & PE (2015-2017), Head Men’s Baseball Coach & Faculty professor (1998-2015) and Assistant Baseball Coach and Associate professor (1996-1997)

“I have been extremely blessed to have been able to work in the same college district and local community for the past 30 years. My various roles at the college have always kept me closely connected to students, athletics and the community at large. I have been strongly influenced and supported by so many mentors that have helped lead me to this current role as Dean of Students”.

Brown during his 15 seasons as head baseball coach accumulated the second most wins in program history behind only the legendary State Hall of Fame coach Tom Giacomini who led the program for 22 seasons. Brown had 110 student athletes graduate to move on and play at the four-year university level and 7 have played at various levels of professional baseball.

Brown also served as full-time faculty professor (2000-2015) during his coaching career and was Academic Senate Co-President from (2011-2013). He was awarded Faculty of the Year award for CR in the 2014-15 academic year. After a two-year stint as an Associate dean, he became the college's fifth Director of Athletics in 2017.

During his tenure as Director of Athletics the athletic programs accumulated 9 conference championships, two football bowl victories and several post-season appearances. The number of sports offered grew from 11 to 16 and total student participation is currently the highest in school history.

Brown is originally from Calgary, Alberta Canada and graduated in 1985 from St. Francis High School. He attended Treasure Valley Community College (1986-1988) and Easten Oregon University (1989-1992) where he played college baseball and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in physical education & health (1992). After moving back to Calgary for two years, he returned to Portland, Oregon in 1994 and worked as a personal trainer and assistant baseball coach at Roosevelt High School (1995-1996). In 1996 a former baseball teammate of his at Eastern Oregon asked him to come down to be his assistant at CR. “I was at a real crossroads in my life and CR at the time was an opportunity to see what direction my career was going to take me but was also meant to be just a temporary stop. Thirty years later that temporary stop obviously became a little more permanent, but I could not be more grateful for everything that has transpired and the relationships I have developed. I met my wife here and have two great daughters that were born and raised in this exceptional community.”

Since joining CR, Brown has acquired his master’s degree in Kinesiology from Humboldt State University (2001). He currently resides in Eureka with his wife Debby and daughters Bailey and Daylin.

“I am a product of the community college experience. At that time, I was so fortunate to have great instructors and coaches that gave me the support necessary to navigate the challenges of being a young adult, far away from home, trying to figure out what to do with my life financially and educationally all while also trying to be a successful student athlete. The fact now that I get to serve and have a small part in giving back to our students at CR while seeing them grow into successful members of society is an incredible privilege that I am lucky and proud to be a part of.”
